History

The Winterscale Warrant is comparatively recent, having been given to Sebastian Winterscale, scion of a family of noble merchants from the Ixaniad Sector, when Parcimus Derwain managed to discover the Maw.

Sebastian was a formidable sailor, a merchant and an outstanding explorer: he came with just a cruiser in the Expanse, discovered many worlds and cut himself a real stronghold, to the point that when he died, an entire sub-sector was was named the Winterscale Realm.

Under each holder’s name, the possessions of the dynasty did nothing but grow, including during the period between the death of Regant predeceasing Calligos and his own ascension. No one knows if Calligos is a clever impostor, a hidden child or a parallel line to the first Winterscale; anyway, he has been scouring the Expanse for more than fifty years. With his recorded exploits, he became a legend among his peers.

Fleet

Winterscale’s fleet is humongous, ranging from clunky mass-haulers to swift raiders through his flagship a Avenger Great Cruiser The Emperor’s Vow. It is known that he maintains a larger than average a dedicated fleet on a war footing; However, with his propensity to recruit mercenaries and minor Rogue traders to perform services for him, the number of ships under his direct command is still lean and it is difficult to estimate the total force. No doubt this is the desired goal.

Main Assets

The colossal income Winterscale is known for comes from dozens of worlds spread throughout the Expanse, the majority concentrated in the Winterscale Realms of course, besides investments in Calixis and Ixanad. He makes business in every field: Cold trade, Large Scale Smuggling, and even Legal Operations. It’s not that Calligos despises the Imperium, on the contrary he considers himself to be an extremely loyal subject. However, in the Expanse, his holdings ARE the Imperium in his mind, and thus he sets his own laws there.

Known Rivals & Allies

The rivalry with Aspyce Chorda, especially concerning Lucin’s Breath, is known to all. Winterscale is a powerful man, and thereby collects allies and enemies.

Lucin’s Breath is a frozen world full nephium within the Kingdom of Winterscale currently split in two between the Chorda and Winterscale. This truce is not sustainable, and it is expected that this cold war will get hotter very soon.

  • Warrant Holder: Aspyce Chorda
  • Motto : Redde Vacuum Pretium. (Pay the Void price.)
  • Tithe Level Exactis Prima.

History

The Chorda warrant dates back to the creation of the Calixis sector. The Chorda family were pirates, privateers and freebooters in the vein of their founder, Esme Chorda – a privateer and vainquisher of the Cauldron of Sauvagery Space Hulk in 673.M40.

Aspyce was the only daughter and third (Official) child from her father, a bon vivant who multiplied the conquests and bastards, sleeping on the family heritage. The girl, suffering from severe attacks of melancholy & cruelty, worried her parents, who sent her in the Navy. There, she quickly climbed the hierarchy, pushed by her bravery and effectiveness; her absolute disregard for the welfare of her men and her taste for bloody battles passed largely unnoticed.

She became Lady-captain of a ship in the Hecaton Abyss, taking liberties with her mission orders, acting more like a pirate offering “protection” against retribution. She left the Navy on time as complaints were growing, at her father death.

She discovered with horror that her innumerable siblings were arguing about the Letter of Marque, and the inheritance was so contested that Administratum was about to cancel it altogether. So she went hunting. She eliminated all bastards and lovers of her father to ensure the purity of his lineage. She captured her siblings and sisters and offered them a deal: the safe life in a cryogenic tank or immediate death. Five years later, she became the new Warrant Holder.

Aspyce Chorda became one of the most powerful Rogue traders roaming the Expanse. She is cruel, dangerous, and vindicative, an Adamantium hand in a Power Fist. She believes that Might Makes Right, and nothing stops here in her desires to accumulate wealth and glory. She accepts no excuse and no uncounth neighbors.

Physically, she would have been a small beautiful women, without her so cold piercing eyes. She is a formidable fighter, who appreciates grandiose outfits to affirm her wealth and piety.

Fleet

Chorda’s fleet is an equal match to Winterscale’s, even if she prefer light and fast vessels She emphasizes the versatility : her frigates can trade or smuggle as well as they can sustain a battle. She has fewer ships of the line of her rival, but sh has enough to make anyone else to bow into submission.

The hulls of her ships are richly decorated, maintened in perfect cleanliness, her crews with uniforms and pay that is the envy of all. The alliance between beauty and might is what made Chorda one of the most respected players in the Expansion.

Main Assets

Chorda’s wealth come from dozens of worlds spread throughout the Expanse, the majority being oncentrated in the Cauldron, even if she encroaches into the Winterscale Realms. The bulk of her revenues still comes from the Calixis Sector.

Chorda is harvesting wealth on all kind of operations, from the least lawful to the utmost pious, with ruthlessness and no regards whatsoever to human lives.

  • Symbol : A white & black balance on black & white chequer background.
  • Current Warrant Holder: Joachim Saul
  • Motto : Solvat Debita Semper. Always pay your dues.
  • Tithe Level Exactis Extremis.

History

Among Rogue Traders, legal trade is an activity that is seen with disdain traditionally. After all, this is a job for simple Chartists. The house of Saul, for nearly a millennium, has been dedicated to this activity, to their great fortune.

Joaquin Saul was born into wealth, in a prosperous family. Having spent his youth on a ship, andshown very early capacities, he worked as a Ship steward, and developed a taste for mathematics, finance, and won an outstanding commercial instinct.

He is not averse to risks – trade speaking-, and led his dynasty to a record high wealth since. Joaquin Saul is a pious man, very charismatic and suave, and an outstanding negotiator. To do business with him is always a great idea because he is a reliable partner. And he will make you dearly pay otherwise by cornering the market otherwise.

Fleet

Saul’s fleet consists essentially of all kind of transports, from Jericho to bulky Universes through the nimble Orions. There are few wars ships, using instead mercenaries, pirates or partners to defend convoys. He offers a colossal fortune to crush any idiot who would attack his property, and only the desperate or ignorant attack Saul vessels.

His flagship is NECESSARY EXPENDITURE, an Exchequer class transport.

Main Assets

Saul are primarily merchants. The billions of tons of goods moving from the Expanse to Calixis is their Lifeblood, and Saul a vital part..

It should be noted that his Warrant requires his to attend as soon as possible to the needs of the Ecclesiarchy. Man of utmost faith, Saul goes well beyond that, seeding the expanse with pilgrim ships and financing most of the Missonaria Galaxia missions in the Expanse, earning well-diserved support from the Ecclesiarchy in return.

Known Rivals & Allies

Saul has far more friends than foes, doing a outstanding job not much wanted by his peers.

Known Current Whereabouts

Joachim Saul is currently exploring and trying to colonize the Heathen Stars. Moreover, he is always buying sacred & religious artefacts -especially old tomes from the begining of the Imperium. It is also known he’ll pay good money for any information concerning the wherabouts of the EXCHEQUER, the name-giver of this transport class, and last piece lacking to his collection of said starships.

  • Colors : Unknown
  • Symbol : Unknown
  • Current Warrant Holder: Charlabelle Armelan
  • Motto : Unknown
  • Tithe Level Unknown

History

House Armelan only recently changed hands, with the Warrant of Trade moving from father to daughter. One can only assume that the strain of protecting the Dynasty’s interests from a prolonged and rather significant Ork push has left the former Rogue Trader exhausted and ready for retirement. The House is known to make occasional trips into the Expanse, though their primary interests lie elsewhere in the sector.

Charlabelle Armelan

  • Appearance: Madam Armelan is a striking woman of classical beauty whose natural charisma shines equally well through captain’s finery as it does a ballroom dress. Except in formal party functions, she keeps to the more practical clothing of a free captain often with her weaponry in easy reach and clear view. Fortune, treatments or a good reaction time had keep her face mostly clear of scars, but one unlucky event cost her left arm below the elbow. It since been replaced with a subdued, onyx and silver cybernetic.
  • Personality: Charlabelle caries the air of a formally trained and etiquette written lady of privilege. Despite this, she does much to prevent one from considering her a willowy heiress. She is well educated and holds the conversations of a noble sophisticate as well as cut through the usual obfuscation of Academia. More importantly, she has an iron determination an indomitable will, even compared to Rogue Trader standards. She is also extremely proud of her dynasty.
  • Capabilities: One of Madam Armelan’s most notable abilities is her avoidance of being hoodwinked, conned or otherwise deceived. She’s extremely perceptive and knows exactly how to use that to her best advantage. She is also surprisingly deadly in personal combat, both because of her mastery of a rare xenos weapon, was well as her own personal tenacity.

  • Colors : Gold & Purple.
  • Symbol : Orange flaming skull with dark shades on magenta
  • Current Warrant Holder: Jeremiah Blitz
  • Motto : Usually Official Blitz seal of approval, bitches
  • Tithe Level Decuma Particular.

History

Jeremiah Blitz is a ruffian, a charming rogue and a notorious crook, addicted to adrenaline. He feels more comfortable in a seedy brothel than the high spires of Imperial nobility, and makes ostentatious faux-pas with gusto.

Known Cold trader and purveyor of Art counterfeits, he got his Letter of Marque in a very peculiar way,n fifteen years ago: he entered on a bluff a high stake card game with a Sector Gouvernor, losed everything up until the final draw where he managed to win a favor from him. The Gosvenor, in disgust, kept his promise in disgust, and a year and a day later, Blitz received its Letter of Marque and the Cruiser ORDAINED DESTINY.

It should be noted, however, that he has a code of honor, if abstruse. It is knownthat he helped the uprising on Soviet IX against his dictaroial if efficient governor, ensuring the absence of Imperial Vindication by paying upfront the world’s whole year tithe in advance, and and ensured a 15% growth of said tithe in the decade that followed his successfull overthrow. It is rumored that he spent five years to organize all this to honor a promise to a young noblewoman he was trying to seduce … And once seduced, he abandoned her a week later, to never see her again.

Fleet

The Blitz fleet is reduced to a single vessel, a pretentiously decorated cruiser named the ORDAINED DESTINY, with a hull entirely covered in gold. Blitz is known for an icconoclastic use of his vessel, including a well-documented love to ramming actions.

Main Assets

Blitz was a delinquant, and he as a Rogue trader, stayed true to the Rogue part. In his own words in his own strange hive-ganger low gothic, he describes his Warrant as “A Free Out-of-Jail card”, taunting the Arbites on any occasion, including with lavish ostentatious donations, or by delivering other criminals to them for a bounty, though it is higly suspected – but never prooved- that he simply get ride of competitors after taking over their businesses..

Blitz has a tendency to live from day to day, but little by little, through his haphazard acquisitions and ostentatious spendings, he is building assets that will be the fondations of a wealthy dynasty to come.

Known Rivals & Allies

The least one can say is that the Adeptus Arbites monitor him closely. He does not appreciate Krawkin Fekward, a shady competitor matching him but not “an honest thief”. Currently moving to make deals with the Sabrehagen Dynasty.

Known Current Whereabouts

Currently exploring the Expanse.

Quite a large population believes that the Feckward Dynasty is nothing more then an elaborate, multi-generational scam and Krawkin himself no more then a criminal mastermind and con artist. • Tithe Level Exactis Particular.

History

The Sabrehagen acquired their Warrant during Gog Vandire Age of Blood. They were not the original owners, but Kuril Sabrehagen was a Chartist captain who came supplying the armed fleets besieging the Apostate over Holy Terra .

In an epic naval battle, he managed to defend his convoy from a Rogue Trader whose name is lost to history, allied to Vandire, and sized his Warrant from his dead hands after a duel on his very bridge. His new rank was confirmed on his arrival on Terra by Sebastian Thor himself.

The Solar warrant was changed to the Segmentum Obscurus, and Sabrehagen became known through spearheading many crusades. Conflicts with Haarlock and Razgriz for the conquest of Calix Sector almost bleeded them to death, but they have been on a vertiginious rise to prestige since the current holder Helmut Sabrehagen took the lead., fifty years ago, rising the Sabrehagen once more as one of the most prestigious families and the most prominent of the Calyx.

Fleet

Beside twelve ships of the line named after old Zodiacal signs from Terra, he Sabrehagen fleet is entirely made of Orion class star clippers. Armed like frigates, these extremely fast transports have a solid punch and relies on speed and agility to avoid combat.
The flagship of the fleet is THE Orion herself, the original ship in his class, which was found nearly two millennia ago by the dynasty drifting heavily damaged in an debris field.

Main Assets

The Sabrehagen remained a merchant family. The Meritech wars almost broke them , but the extent of their investments throughout the Calixis sector allowed them to bounce back. Very close second to Saul in term of trading skills, helmut Sabrehagen is only there because he had to rebuild his familly fame back from scratch.

The Sabrehagen are the specialist of fast deliveries of precious goods. When a Chartist ship can notfor one reason or another delivertheir cargos, Sabrehagen Orions swoop in for a huge profit; They also offer their services to the Navy as troop transports and nblockade breaker on worlds ravaged by war. Their fortune also comes from very long-term investments intwining the Dynasty with the most influent and wealthiest Trade houses..

Known Rivals & Allies

The Haarlock were powerful rivals, but currently the dynasty is known for their rivalry with the Razgriz dynasty, trying to claim Razgriz warrant and assets as their own in a poisonous millenia long inheritance trial.

The Sabrehagen have the support of the Calixian Trade Houses, especially House Krin and the very recent Amaranthine Syndicate.

Known Current Whereabouts

They are plying the Expanse, offering their services to other dynasties, including the Winterscale or Chorda, ignoring their setback after Marius Hax final appeal giving the Razgriz warrant to the last Razgriz proper heir.

  • Motto : changed by the current warrant owner :Et tenentes se tam repurgato, Classe princeps Inritus quod nunc ego. " I polished that wheel so carefully, That now I’m the ruler of the Void Navy."
  • Tithe Level Decuma Extremis.

History

The Bastille family is an ancient and revered Rogue Trader dynasty, one that’s always been known for its powerful merchant fleet. The dynasty has used this advantage to both push the frontiers of its fortune and to scour clean the value of any world or trade route they find. It tragically suffered a loss of much if its leadership when a Vortex torpedo malfunctioned and eliminated almost all of the leaders of the family. It was this very event that put Joseph Bastille in command, who was then enjoying a briliant career as a Navy officer in Cypra Mundii.

It is said that his elevation to the rank of Rogue Trader triggered a severe, if secret, war among his former peers. Whatever happened, he left the Segmentum Naval fleet with a deep disdain to his former peers, which appears to be mutual especially after he named himself Lord Admiral.

Fleet

Lord Admiral Bastille the VIIth leads his fleet with a rigor worthy of praise. He has a thriving commercial fleet thriving through the Maw, and an intervention fleet, lead by the battlecruisers the COLOSSUS and her sistership the SHADOW, escorted by five Falchion frigates, the AJAX, the AGAMEMNON, the ACHILLES, the ACTAEON and the APOLLO.

Bastille uses his fleet as his main tool of profit, being literally an expert gunboat diplomat. He also keep the remnants of his family close to him on his flagship, travelling the void with his sisters, his cousins and his aunts.

Main Assets

Bastille keeps his Dynasty financed through prize money, escort missions, exploration fleets and convoys missions. He also has ancillary revenues through shares in secured trade routes.

Like many of her ancestors, she seeks adventures and glory. Seasoned explorer, she went where or even the fiercest Explorers dare not to go, and she came back. • Motto : Zelum Et Fervor, Ab Imo Pector: Zeal & Fervor, from my very heart.
  • Tithe Level Decuma Secundus.

History

The Razgriz Warrant is one of the oldest seen in the Segmentum, one of the very Warrants signed by His Very Hand still surviving to this day, as a reward to Mort Von razgriz for the discovery of the warp rout to Medusa, allowing Him to reunite with one of His Son Ferrus Manus.

Through the millenia, the Raazgriz were there with their ever moving fleet divided among the stars to help the Imperium to grow and defend itself, including glorious actions during the 7th, 9th and 11th Black Crusades. They were among the Sinos, the Haarlock and Sabrehagen, the vanguard of Angevin Crusade. After heavy losses against the Yu’vath, the Warrant holder decided to gather all his fleet in one place, to reinforce the Second Angevin crusade fleet. Alas, it was a lethal error, as the Razgriz were destroyed in the Fensk Calamity in 359M39, except for one surviving ship, the battlecruiser EX CATHEDRA and dynastic flagship. Worse still, the 3 remaining survivors started immediately to fight other the warrant : the eldest one being maried to the Sinos warrant holder, the second to the Sabrehagen warrant holder, and the remaining one, Vendigroth Orestes Montoya Von Razgriz, claiming that he was the only true Razgriz remaining.

This dispute was put on hold, went through many courts, triggered many secret wars and assassinations, culminating with the Sinos annihilation with a joined effort between the Haarlock and Razgriz. it should be of note that the infamous Erasmus Haarlock was the spouse of the infortunate Xandra Von Razgriz, twin sister of Undine Von Razgriz, head of familly.

At long last, the decision was cleared at the very end of 814.M41 by the sector Lord Marius Hax in person, giving back the precious warrant and the frozen assets to the Razgriz line sole surviving heir, a young woman commissionned as Commander in Battlefleet Koronus, Captain of the EDMUND THE BLACK Viper class sloop, Lonallyn Victrix IV Anastasia Von Razgriz.

Fleet

The only remaining vessel is the EX CATHEDRA, an ancient and ostentaciously ornemented battlecruiser. At the beginning of the inheritence war, Vendigroth Von Razgriz received a court order to stow the venerable warship when orbiting over Sinophia. Not wanting to see his familly most precious asset being seized , he decided to plunge the adamantium behemoth through the atmosphere, and crash-landed it on top of the hive of Argopolis, a joint venture of the Sinos and Sabrehagen dynasties, killing hundreds of thousands in the process. The ruined hive stack is still the main hold of the Razgriz, the starship standing precariously on the summit, awaiting someone foolish enough to dare a take-off.

Main Assets

Mostly the meager incomes frozen assets under the strict control of the Administratum, coming from favours, debts, and shares gathered in more than nine millenia of conquest and plunder.

Known Rivals & Allies

Their rivalry with the Sabrehagen dynasty is almost as legendary as the one between Chorda and Winterscale, more discreet but running deeper.

It most be noted that the Razgriz kept through all these dreadfull years good relations with the Primigenes of the Navis Nobility. it is also rumored that a special bond is still kept between the dynasty the proud Astartes of the Iron hand chapter.

Known Current Whereabouts

Credible sources claims that the new warrant holder gathered a crew, and went to Sinophia. Perhaps will they try the foolhardy manoeuver of recovering a cruiser stranded on the planet.

History

Many tales are told all across the void stations of the Segmentum concerning this very old, legendary Dynasty. Some says that the Warrant was bestowed by He-on-Terra Himself, others claimed it was one of His Sons on His Behalf. What everyone agrees on, is that the very warrant giving birth to his dynasty, named after the very first owner, is not hereditary. Anyone who bear this sacred sheet of parchment warded by an archeotech stasis tube, and attuned it to himself, becomes the proper Rogue Trader, and the rightful owner of a legendary vessel, a vessel named the CAVEAT EMPTOR.

Some say it is a battleship, others a grand cruiser, others an enormous passenger transport born from the Dark Age of Technology, a unrivaled marvel of human craftsmanship. Thousand of stories attest the miraculous stubbornness and indestructibility of this venerable starship, which always managed to limp back from even the most dreadful of punishments, with or without her captain.

A favorite tavern story claims that seven millennia ago, the current warrant holder piloted the vessel through a star on a wager. Even though no crew survived, including the foolish captain, ten years later, the glowing body of the ship was seen coming out stubbornly from the other side of the star before spending the next century cooling down enough to be boarded and restored anew. Even if such a an exploit is clearly impossible, this tale is the very popular explanation of why so many Factisse warrant holders kept a Sun as their symbol.

Many consider the dynasty as inherently doomed, nothing more than a motley lineage of piratical ne’er do wells fighting to the death for claim on the Warrant, scums an crooks with an official cover. When it is not a criminal fool getting ahold of this Warrant, someone insane will, throwing away his life and his crew in some hubristic endeavour. In the best known story, after all, they disappeared with all hands trying to find the Maw, didn’t they?

Others say that considering the many things they have done, according to the tales, daring to go where no one else tried before, no matter how far or dangerous, and the miracles they have accomplished, they are somehow doing His Work. After All, in this insane times, only the fools prosper.

Fleet

Many details are lost or unreliable concerning the CAVEAT EMPTOR. Most agree it was a gigantic vessel, some versions going as far as telling it might dwarf the MISERICHORD or the BOUNTIFUL BEAST. Her weapon and technical capacities are unknown, as the tales as so contradictory to make any assumption a fabricated guess. All rumors agree, though, that she was a sight to behold, with her large corridors drowned in an eerie glimmering light. She is said to be more beautiful even than the grand cathedrals found on all but the most wealthy and pious planets, and fit to stay for decades among the stars.

Main Assets

The dynasty was known for cyclicals bouts on enormous fortunes, which then dwindled slowly as some catastrophe stoke them and the warrant lost, before starting anew when it got back into the right hands. the wisest Seneschals considers that they somehow saw the seeds of many flourishing sectors, and even though the Administratum is quick enough to seize the sleeping fortunes to nourish the Imperium, though even the mere trinkets of wealth still remaining in the Factisse possession might represent a considerable wealth.

Known Rivals & Allies

As the dynasty is currently thought extinct, so is considered ancient ennemities and alliances. It might be a colossal mistake though.

Known Current Whereabouts

Unknown, but very probably extinct hundred of years ago.
